Tekka Sushi in Elk Grove Village: A Strip-Mall Spot We’re Definitely Repeating

Vika and I checked out Tekka Sushi in Elk Grove Village this week — new to us — and I can’t really say anything negative about it. The sushi was fantastic, the cocktails were great, and we left already talking about when we’d be back.

It’s in a strip mall, which doesn’t sound exciting, but parking was easy and inside it’s genuinely nice — modern, clean, well lit, none of the dated decor you sometimes get at suburban sushi spots. Staff were friendly and never rushed us.

The cocktail: Ananda Spritz

We both ordered the Ananda Spritz — bourbon, pineapple, lemon, prosecco, bitters, and Amaro Nonino. On paper I wasn’t sure all of that would work; in the glass it was beautifully balanced, the whiskey present, the citrus bright, the prosecco lifting it. We liked it enough that we both got it, and I’d order it again without thinking.

The rolls

Four rolls between us: the Cherry Blossom, the Black Dragon, the Yuzu Tuna, and the Paradise. Here’s what we both noticed: a lot of places drown every roll in the same sauce until they taste identical. Not here — every roll had a distinct flavor, sauces present but never overbearing, and neither of us reached for the soy sauce once.

The Yuzu Tuna was my favorite: fresh, with citrus that actually came through. The Paradise was the one Vika kept returning to. The Black Dragon is rich and filling with great flavor. The Cherry Blossom is a five-piece showpiece — salmon shaped into flowers with crab inside and orange tobiko in the center, lighter, a nice opener. Rice-to-fish ratio was right, nothing fell apart, and the fish was fresh enough to taste.

What we ordered and what it cost

Two Ananda Spritz cocktails and four rolls for two. The total, with tax, was $93.80 before tip. For this quality of fish and these cocktails, that’s a fair price — not cheap (sushi never is), but very reasonable next to what some places nearby charge for less.

The verdict

Fresh fish, distinct flavors per roll, sauces that don’t overwhelm, a cocktail that surprised me, friendly staff, easy parking, and a fair price ($93.80 for two with tax). Definitely a place we’re repeating — it’s part of our local sushi rotation now.
